Your first step in an emergency is to DIAL 000 and ask for Police, Fire or Ambulance.
Bushfire
- For reporting bushfires please contact the national emergencies telephone number 000
- NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Fire Brigade provide rural fire protection and emergency response. This involves not only attending to fires, but response to a diverse range of incidents, in addition to planning, coordination, mitigation and education programs for the community. The NSW Rural Fire Service also has up to date fire reports.

To seek assistance for flooding and storm damage to your residence or business contact the SES (NSW State Emergency Service) on their emergency assistance number 132 500.
Agencies and their Responsibilities
NSW Police Force
Law enforcement, search and rescue, earthquakes, and civil disturbances. Police co-ordinate evacuation and undertake Disaster Victim Registration.

NSW Rural Fire Service
Responds to all types of fire suppression and bush fire mitigation within Rural Fire Districts. The service undertakes community education programs and hazard reduction burning to minimise wildfires

NSW State Emergency Service (SES)
Responds to flooding and storm damage. SES assists Police and other Services in search and rescue, major emergencies and disasters. Members of the Service are volunteers and are recruited regularly.

NSW National Parks & Wildlife Services
Responsible for preventing and extinguishing bush fires on National Parks estate and responding to and co-ordinating marine mammal incidents in NSW. The Service also assists in search and rescue and waterway hazards.

Department of Community Services
Organises and co-ordinates the welfare support to victims of major incidents and emergencies by co-ordinating and providing financial assistance, food, clothing and other essentials, accommodation, emotional support and referrals.

Animal Emergency Committee
The Manly Warringah Pittwater Branch of the Animal Welfare League is an active part of the LEMC that develops and co-ordinates the care of animals during emergencies. They also house the Horse Rescue Sling. This service is run by volunteers and new members are always needed.
